About this object
Messier 35, or the Shoe-Buckle Cluster, is a stunning open star cluster located in the constellation Gemini, and it’s a must-see for amateur astronomers. This celestial gem, approximately 2,800 light-years from Earth, contains around 200 stars scattered across a region roughly the size of the full Moon. With an estimated age of about 150 million years, M35 is relatively young compared to other clusters, and its stars shine with a beautiful mix of blue and white hues, typical of hot, youthful stellar populations. Through binoculars or a small telescope, M35 appears as a glittering patch of light, while larger apertures resolve its individual stars, creating a breathtaking view. Interestingly, M35 is also home to a fainter, more distant cluster, NGC 2158, which can be spotted nearby in the same field of view. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced observer, M35 offers a rewarding glimpse into the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of our galaxy. Don't miss this dazzling cluster on your next stargazing adventure!
